Scaling Our Team, the Thyme Care Way

One of the most rewarding aspects of my journey at Thyme Care as the Head of Recruiting has been building our exceptional team. 500 employees across 40 states, with an array of diverse perspectives, all share one common goal: how do we make cancer care better, more affordable, and easier to access?

Thyme Care’s powerful mission to transform the cancer care experience drew me to the company, and the remarkable, kind individuals it attracts—a true self-selection of talent—keep me here.  

This dynamic between our external perception and internal culture is powerful and a key ingredient of our success. I’ve been fortunate enough to have previously worked with our Head of People, so when the invitation to join Thyme Care came my way, I knew this was a partnership I wanted again. While recruiting serves as the entry point for an employee, maintaining a great culture, a supportive team, and providing the right resources is incredibly important. This is precisely why the partnership between Recruiting and the overall People function is so critical to Thyme Care’s success. 

Thyme Care has genuinely been the perfect fit, and I think my reasons for joining are also what draw new people to our team. 

Rapid Recruiting Growth:

Since I joined in August 2023, Thyme Care has grown rapidly in terms of the number of people with cancer we support, the number of health plan contracts we have, and the number of people we’ve hired—from making around a dozen monthly hires when I first joined to now over 80 per month. To put that into scale, when I started, our team had around 120 people. Today, we have over 500 full-time employees (and growing!).  

In the first quarter of 2025, we welcomed 160+ new team members, a staggering 30% higher than any previous quarter! This acceleration is crucial to meeting the demands of our expanding contracts and reflects our increased hiring velocity, driven by:

  • A Growing Recruiting Team: To meet our increasing needs, we've strategically expanded our talent acquisition team with new full-time hires, contractor support, and agency partnerships.
  • Sustained Candidate Interest: The passion for our mission and the people here continues to attract a high volume of engaged and qualified candidates.

  • High Offer Acceptance Rate: We're proud that top talent recognizes the value of joining Thyme Care, reflected in our strong offer acceptance rates.

  • Increased Recruiting Operational Efficiency: We've focused on streamlining our processes, particularly within our growing Care Team, to ensure a smooth and efficient experience for both candidates and hiring managers.

The numbers speak for themselves: our quarterly candidate flow has surged from 6,000 in early 2024 to an impressive 39,000 in the first quarter of 2025.

With this rapid growth, our People team remains deeply committed to maintaining a high quality of hire, reducing our time-to-fill, and ensuring the long-term retention of our talented team members.

 

Building a Scalable Hiring Engine:

To support this growth, we've thoughtfully scaled our People team. We've hired experienced recruiters, managers, coordinators, a dedicated sourcer, a Senior Manager of People Operations, and an HRBP. We continue to build out our Recruiting Operations and HRBP functions to optimize and scale our processes further.

Our recruiting process is designed with clarity and collaboration in mind. We believe in setting clear expectations for everyone involved, from hiring managers to interview panel members and our recruiting team. This includes:

  • Collaborative Job Description Creation: Hiring managers and our recruiting team work together to craft compelling and inclusive job descriptions that accurately reflect the role and required competencies.

  • Structured Interview Kits: We develop frameworks and role-specific questions aligned with key competencies to ensure a consistent and fair evaluation of all candidates. We emphasize the importance of a focused assessment by each interviewer based on their area of expertise.

  • Streamlined Communication: We leverage our recruiting toolkit, which includes various platforms and tools, including Greenhouse, Puck, Indeed, Canvass, etc, for efficient candidate experience and tracking as well as for clear and timely communication throughout the process.

  • Efficient Interview Loops: We've optimized our interview process for our Care Team members. The streamlined approach typically involves just two to three steps total, designed to respect candidates' time, minimize assessment redundancy, and ensure swift, efficient decision-making. These team members interact with our patients daily, and any delay in hiring or a misaligned placement can directly impact the quality of care our patients receive.

  • Timely and Constructive Feedback: We prioritize providing prompt and valuable feedback at every stage, with interview scorecards expected within one business day.

  • Collaborative Debriefs: Our debrief meetings ensure a thorough discussion of candidate feedback and a collaborative approach to hiring decisions.

  • Thoughtful Offer Process: We believe in open communication with candidates throughout the offer stage, including pre-offer calls and clear communication of total compensation and start dates.

We've also implemented initiatives like a referral bonus program and increased internal visibility of open roles to encourage our team to help us find exceptional talent.
