Growth stage executive joins Thyme Care to pioneer value-based cancer care and fuel next phase of company growth
NASHVILLE – March 14, 2023 – Thyme Care, the leading value-based cancer care enabler, today announced the appointment of healthcare finance veteran Jesse Waldron as its first Chief Financial Officer. Jesse brings nearly two decades of financial leadership and growth stage executive experience to the role, most recently from value-based kidney care provider Cricket Health and the digital therapeutics platform Propeller Health, where he led both organizations through rapid phases of growth and successful acquisitions.
At Thyme Care, Jesse will be responsible for driving financial performance, future capital raises, risk management, and scaling the company’s finance and accounting operations to adapt to the rapidly accelerating needs of the business. Jesse joins Thyme Care during a period of accelerated growth, following the company’s recent $60M Series B fundraise to fuel the expansion of its provider-powered, value-based cancer care model through its contracts with payers.
“The high costs of cancer care are rapidly pushing payers and providers toward specialty care partners capable of delivering superior clinical and financial outcomes. Thyme Care's extensive oncology expertise and collaborative approach uniquely position the company to spearhead the transition towards value-based cancer care, while improving the patient experience,” said Waldron. “Drawing from my background in managing innovative payment models and guiding organizations through significant growth phases in other sectors of healthcare, such as value-based kidney care, I am enthusiastic about applying this expertise to Thyme Care as we embark on our next phase of growth together."
Jesse most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer at Cricket Health, where he successfully led and facilitated the organization’s fundraising and acquisition efforts, including its $83.5M Series B fundraise and its three-way $2.4B merger with a division of Fresenius Medical Care and an affiliated joint venture to create Interwell Health. Prior to Cricket Health, Jesse built the financial functions of Propeller Health from the ground up. While there, he facilitated the company’s growth stage fundraising efforts and executed the successful $225M acquisition of Propeller Health by ResMed, Inc.
“We’re eager to welcome a financial leader of Jesse’s caliber to our team,” said Brad Diephuis, MD, MBA, chief business officer at Thyme Care and former advisor to CMMI. “Through our deep collaboration with oncologists and partnerships with payers and providers, Thyme Care is delivering superior outcomes and experiences at reduced costs for everyone in the care continuum. Jesse’s expertise in managing financial functions in other areas of value-based healthcare is a timely addition as we continue our rapid growth trajectory.”
Cancer care today is facing an inflection point, mirroring the transformation kidney care underwent a decade ago. CMS’ initiatives like the Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM) and its Comprehensive End-Stage Renal Disease Care (CEC) model are driving the shift toward value-based care. Thyme Care is at the forefront of this evolution in oncology, partnering with more than 400 oncologists to deliver comprehensive cancer care support in the clinic and beyond. In the past year, Thyme Care has tripled the number of covered lives it serves, doubled its payer partnerships in the Medicare Advantage and Commercial space, and nearly doubled its number of oncology partners across the country.
